Association Kokopelli endeavors :
- to promote the preservation of biodiversity through the distribution of organic and open-pollinated seeds of heirloom varieties of vegetables and grains.
- to create a network of gardeners involved in seed saving.
- to help Third World countries to develop sustainable organic agriculture through the gift of seeds and the setting of seed grower networks.

Membership

We are proposing three different levels of membership for 2003 : "Supporter" at 20 euro, "Activist" at 60 euros, and "Benefactor" at 150 euros.

A part of the membership money goes towards our projects in the Third World. We thank all our friends and members who have enabled us to put in place various projects since 1999.
-In the last two years, thanks to the support of our members, we have distributed 150,000 packets of seeds free of charge in Asia , Africa and Latin America.
-The Centre of Genetic Resources in Auroville in Southern India is now fully established and we thank in particular the Fondation pour une Terre Humaine for its support. The University of Tropical Agro-Ecology started its first course in September 2002.
-Projects have been started in Africa and our next project there is to set up a Centre of Genetic Resources in north Senegal, in partnership with the NGO ‘Enda-Pronat’, within the framework of our project “Femmes Semencières” (‘Women Seed Producers”).

Adopt a seed

Association Kokopelli is proposing to all its members ‘Supporters’, ‘Activists’, and ‘Benefactors’, to become a godparent to a seed variety . You can, if you so wish, choose a species, for example a tomato or a lettuce, and you will then be offered by the Association a particular variety within your chosen species, for example the tomato, " Black Zebra ", or the lettuce " Bronze Arrowhead ".

The godfather or godmother is invited to conserve that particular variety over the years in his or her garden and each year to produce seed. The seed stock of the chosen variety will be sent by the Association in the beginning of the spring

Thousands of varieties of tomatoes, peppers, squashes, lettuces, cabbages, and more, are in search of a " refuge ". Adopt a seed ! Together we can create thousands of " Kokopelli " gardens each of which will be the regenerating refuge of at least one vegetable variety !

Two Ranges of Kokopelli Seeds

From the beginning of December 2002, Association Kokopelli is proposing a different modus operandi. In effect, the number of ancient varieties that we wish to protect and bring back into production is increasing year by year. Moreover, our members want to be much more directly involved in the life of the Association producing seed in their own family gardens in order to assist our dynamic of protecting bio-diversity.

To this end we are offering two ranges of seeds :

- The " Boutique " range, offering all the species of garden vegetable plants with a diverse selection of varieties within each species : 200 varieties of Tomatoes, 80 varieties of Squashes, 100 varieties of Peppers, etc…
The price of these packets will be 2,50 euros ( 2,20 euros to Members of the Association).
The seeds within this range are all produced by professional growers in organic agriculture, all of whom are certified by one of the recognised certifying bodies . The packets are certified by Soil Association, by Ulase, and by Nature et Progrès.
This "boutique" range is available in the shop to order online. Please, note that the members wishing to order seeds with the discount price (2,20 euros) are invited to do it by mail or phone (with a credit card).

-The " Collectors " range, offering hundreds, thousands even, of varieties that are little grown, little known and in many cases on the brink of extinction.
These packets will be available free to all those members within the "Activist" and "Benefactor" categories, and also to those "Supporters" who are very involved in seed production.
These seeds in the " Collectors " range will in the medium term be produced by the members themselves, and always employing organic methods of gardening. In the short term, however, our professional growers will equally be involved in this production in order to breath life into this dynamic. The complete list of the " Collectors " range will be available directly from Association Kokopelli in Ales in France around the end of February.
